As a product of over two decades of research at the CSIR-Central Drugs Research Institute (CDRI), Lucknow, Saheli comprises a unique non-steroidal drug namely Centchroman (also called as Ormeloxifene). Saheli has a composition of centchroman 30mg. This drug is not only unique due mode of action but it is also very convenient to use. Hence this drug is approved by DCGI and has been included in the National Family Welfare Programme of India since 1995.

The research efforts of CSIR scientists have shown that centchroman which is a Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator (SERM) is bestowed with dual properties of being mildly anti-estrogenic in a few organs while being a potent- estrogenic agent in a few other organs. With this unique blend of natural properties, centchroman is equipped to inhibit the fertilized ovum from implantation without disturbing the hormonal balance. Hence Saheli is a safe Non-steroidal Contraceptive pill.
